Our Story
At Veg Gro Markets, we started with a simple vision: to create a community where people can come together and enjoy fresh, locally sourced produce and products. Over the past three years, we have grown into a beloved local institution, serving our community with dedication, passion, and heart.
Stovel Siemon Ltd has been a cherished part of the Perth County community for over 60 years. When Darryl Siemon took over management in 2022, he decided to embark on a new adventure to grow a fresh market business within Perth County. The Siemon family—starting with Darryl's grandfather, Lloyd Siemon, and continuing with his father, Scott Siemon—has been dedicated to producing high-quality produce and supplying rutabagas and other vegetables to markets across Ontario, Canada, and beyond.
Initially thriving as a rutabaga farm, the business evolved significantly in 2022 when the Stovel Siemon family decided to open a fresh market, which they proudly named Veg Gro Markets. The venture began by selling produce right out of the front door of what was formerly known as the Stovel Siemon office. In the first few months, overwhelming support from the community pushed us to move from one trailer to another, trying to keep up with the increasing demand for fresh produce.
As the year came to an end, many customers asked what our plans were for the winter, leading us to realize that the trailer setup would not be sustainable. During this time, we made the decision to build an addition onto the Stovel-Siemon office, allowing us to bring in more Ontario-made and Canadian products to better serve our customers needs, as well as more produce such as citrus and other non-locally grown items.
We began partnering with local businesses, including Jerry Raider's, Metzger's Meats, Nor Pac Meats, Hayters, Millbank Cheese, Shakespeare Pie, and Shaws Ice Cream. As we continued to grow, we officially outgrew the space that once housed Stovel- Siemon office, prompting the need for a new, larger facility.
In 2026, Veg Grow Markets will transition into a full storefront, providing the everyday needs of our community. We hope to continue offering the best produce and products available, both in Ontario and beyond. Today, Veg Gro Markets carries a wide selection of meats, frozen items, pantry staples, beer, wine, spirits, as well as plants and fresh bread.
As we continue to expand, our clientele grows, and we look forward to serving our community with quality produce for years to come. This is a glimpse into our vision and how we came to be.
